"West Anniston Today" is a project of the West Anniston Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in West Anniston, AL. The Foundation is a public charity corporation. The mission of the organization is to revitalize and sustain the west Anniston community by promoting and supporting the health and education of economically and socially disadvantaged residents and former residents of west Anniston. The Foundation has experience in administering over a million dollars in foundation and federal government grants. This includes grants from the Daniel Foundation, Solutia, Inc., the Agency of Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR),and the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), Andrus Family Fund, Department of Health and Human Services and John S.and James L. Knight Foundation.
"West Anniston Foundation and others are at the frontline of an increasing movement of place-based foundations to improve the information health of America’s communities,” said Alberto Ibarguen, president and CEO of Knight Foundation. “Their work helps residents have the information they need to make important decisions about their communities. Ultimately, our democracy will only thrive if we have informed and engaged communities.”
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation advances journalism in the digital age and invest in the vitality of communities where the Knight Brothers owned newspapers. Knight Foundation focuses on projects that promote informed and engaged communities and lead to transformational change.
"West Anniston Today" will serve as a weekly radio program and continuous website that will help area residents interact immediately with representatives of business, government agencies and other community organizations. It is our hope at West Anniston Foundation that through this program residents will be better informed, less susceptible to rumor and misinformation and more likely to participate in programs and activities that benefit the individual residents and community at large. "West Anniston Today"is aired live every Thursday from 12pm-1pm on Anniston's local radio station WHOG 1120AM.
